  Chloe Perrier

  Chloe Perrier is a French Jazz singer based in NYC. Chloe started acting, singing and playing the violin at a young age. Chloe decided to make music, singing, and singing. She studied vocal jazz with Sara Lazarus along with composing and piano with Joe Makholm for three years at the Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris. During that time, Chloe started to write and compose her first songs. To further her education Chloe also participated in various workshops, one organized by the guitarists Pierrick Hardy and Olivier Cahors in Crest, France (2009) and one by the singer Claudia Solal in Paris, France (2011). Nowadays Chloe performs with her French Jazz Band as a duet (guitar / singing or piano / singing), trio (piano, bass, singing) and quartet (piano, electronic bass, drums, singing) in several locations and clubs in Paris such as The Sunset, The Sunside, The 7 Lezards, The Pinot Franc, The Reservoir, The Studio des Islettes, The Murano Hotel and 9 Jazz Club ... and in NYC at the Zinc Bar, The Iridium, Bonafide Club, Why not jazz club, Cornelia Street cafe, The Manderley at the Mc Kittrick hotel, Club Bonafide, The flat of the Standard, the Flatiron room, Opia, Fine & Rare ... Jazzbox on Radio Aligre, and the TV show Telematin in France among others. Chloe's great strength is her ability to connect with her audience using her clear voice, emotion and true artistic talent. Whether she interprets great jazz standards, bossa nova, French songs, or her own compositions, she transports the audience into her poetic and romantic universe and enchants the audience with the refreshing and dreamy way she has of looking at life. Her first album "Heart of French" (heart of a French girl) is a cheerful mix of famous French songs and her own compositions arranged with a jazz rhythm. She has a very original trio using only a piano and drums. She is accompanied by the talented pianist Elie Chemali (Big sick body, Cheb Kaled, Mamami Keita ...) and the groovy drummer Felix Sabal-Lecco (Manu Dibango, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock ...). She is preparing her second album with her new band French Heart Jazz Band , a mix of French songs and American jazz standards from the 20s to the 40s with a continental flare, with which she is performing all around the city (Cornelia street cafe, Club Bonafide, The Manderley at the McKittrick Hotel, The top of the standard, and more).

  When I was a young man in Argentina, I was introduced to the Great American Songbook, which was the popular music of that era in America, though not in Argentina. I was very attracted to this music and sought it out wherever I could. My first exposure to the vocalists and songs of this wonderful music came a few years later when a friend of mine brought back some albums that he got during a trip to the United States. I heard the first few bars of a song and suddenly felt that I had discovered something new. I didn’t know it at the time but I was listening to Frank Sinatra singing a song written by Cole Porter and accompanied by Nelson Riddle in what was later become one of his most iconic orchestrations. The song was “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” – How can anybody resist three giants like Sinatra, Porter and Riddle and not fall in love with this kind of music! I was fortunate that I knew some English so I could understand most of the song, because I suddenly felt this urge to sing only American Music. The photograph on the back cover of my latest CD, entitled “I’ve Gotta Be Me,” shows me at my very first public appearance in the City of Cordoba, Argentina in 1966. I feel compelled to explain that the young man in the photograph is neither my son nor my grandson…It is just ME only forty seven years ago – Have I changed that much ? – Really? After a few years, in 1968, I decided to move to the United States to follow my dream. Sometimes there is a certain blessing in not knowing how much one doesn't know so I came really believing that I was “ready” and totally unaware that I was merely starting a long and arduous learning process…but it was really exciting. The first thing I did was buy every album I could get my hands on and attend every show I could. Fortunately, at that time the vocalists singing the great American standards were the stars of the moment. I remember a few days after landing at LAX I was at the Greek Theatre listening to Jack Jones with the Buddy Rich Band…I thought to myself “This is Heaven and I am in it.” Since then, from time to time, I allowed circumstances to take me away from performing and drive me into the well known trap called Corporate America. However, there was never a moment when my love for the music was not the strongest presence in my life. And that love has led me to follow my heart and make “I’ve Gotta Be Me.” Many years ago, when I first started singing in Argentina, a very old timer tango singer under the effects of some good Chianti, gave me some sound advice – Kid (Yes…I WAS a kid at the time) if you want to sing you need to learn two things: First: Get the best musicians you can find and Second: Stay out of the way and don’t muck things up (He actually used a different word instead of muck) I am happy to say, I have been very successful with the first part – I am still working and getting better on the second one. When people have comments about the great musicians I have on my latest CD they always mentioned that I should be proud of them. To this I respond: More than proud, what I feel is extremely grateful. Andy, Steve, Karl and Doug are geniuses, and each one brings a life of musical experience and talent. Andy Howe has been my musical director for the last ten years and, in addition to playing wonderful piano and directing, he has written some of the best arrangements I have. He has an uncanny ability to understand in very few words, what I want to achieve with a song and what mood needs to be set and come up with the most beautiful and creative orchestrations. For these reasons, I still count within my repertoire songs like “I’ve Gotta Be Me,” “The Impossible Dream (The Quest),” and most recently “Here’s to Life.” All of them about celebrating what life is really about and being honest to one’s true self.

Individuals who possess a quality and integrity that peers look up to, not for mere bursts of blazing notes or chops, but for the perfection of their performances and the joy they bring. Such a musician is West coast based Jazz journeyman guitarist Doug MacDonald. “I’ve simply never lost my love affair for warm notes, a good standard and striving for the best performance”, states the guitarist. In that regard, MacDonald’s musicianship evokes thoughts of such artists as Chet Baker and Sinatra, to name a few, who performed and excelled in a particular style their entire careers while keeping it fresh for their audiences time after time. Originally from Philadelphia, he began his career in Hawaii, where he played with Trummy Young and Gabe Balthazar, and with Del Courtney at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Relocating to Las Vegas, Doug found himself immersed in a vibrant music scene, and began playing in lounges and showrooms with jazz greats, including Joe Williams, Carl Fontana, Jack Montrose, and Carson Smith. On to Los Angeles, Doug played in the bands of Bill Holman, Ray Anthony, and John Clayton, and performed and recorded with Jake Hanna, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Sheldon, Bob Cooper, Ross Tompkins, Ray Brown, Buddy Rich, and Ray Charles. Doug also began recording and performing with his own trio and quartet, as well as his 13 piece ensemble, The Jazz Coalition. Throughout his career, the guitarist has caught the attention of noted jazz writers and critics. Michael Nastos of All Music Guide wrote, “a veteran guitarist who knows his influences cold, and consistently plays to his strong suit.” Scott Yanow wrote of MacDonald, “...a fine bop-based guitarist in the tradition of Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, and Joe Pass.” Chicago Tribune’s Zan Stewart captured so much of MacDonald when he wrote, “...beautiful bell-clear sounds and a sure-footed sense of swing.” drummer Harold Acey round out the personnel.”
